Praxis Pirnay is a physiotherapy practice with three locations: Cologne-Worringen (since 1981), Cologne-Esch (since 2004) and Düsseldorf-Unterbilk (since 2025). Since December 2019 the practice has been owned by Ellyn Pirnay, a state-certified physiotherapist. We treat patients with any statutory or private health insurance as well as self-paying patients. With a doctor’s prescription we also treat you at home or in your nursing home: in the north of Cologne and in Düsseldorf-Unterbilk, there within about one kilometre of the practice.

Where are the Praxis Pirnay practices located?
We have 3 locations: Cologne Esch (Martinusstraße 53), Cologne Worringen (Hackhauser Weg 61) and Düsseldorf Unterbilk (Fürstenwall 146). All three are easy to reach by public transport and by car. Cologne Esch and Düsseldorf have step-free access; in Cologne Worringen there is one step at the entrance.
Which health insurance providers are accepted?
We work with all statutory and private health insurance providers. To bill your statutory health insurance you need a doctor’s prescription.

How long has Praxis Pirnay been in practice?
Praxis Pirnay has existed since 1981, when the first practice opened in Cologne-Worringen. The Cologne-Esch practice has been there since 2004, the Düsseldorf Unterbilk practice since 2025. We treat patients of all ages, from infants to seniors.
Does Praxis Pirnay also offer home visits?
Yes, for patients who cannot come to the practice for health reasons, we offer home visits – at home and in nursing homes, in Cologne and Düsseldorf. In Düsseldorf we visit patients in Unterbilk, roughly within one kilometre of the practice. The home visit must be noted on the doctor's prescription.
Do I need a prescription (referral) for physiotherapy?
To bill your statutory health insurance you need a doctor’s prescription; from the age of 18 you then pay the statutory co-payment of 10 per cent of the costs plus 10 euros per prescription (Section 61 SGB V), unless you are exempt. Privately insured patients and self-payers likewise bring a medical prescription, a private prescription is sufficient. Please check with your private insurer beforehand what it reimburses.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring your health insurance card and your doctor's prescription (if available). Wear comfortable clothing that allows for examination. Medical reports, X-rays or MRI findings are helpful but not mandatory.
How long does a treatment session at Praxis Pirnay last?
A single treatment session typically lasts 20–60 minutes, depending on the prescribed therapy. For your first appointment, please allow some extra time for the initial assessment.
Which languages are spoken at the practices?
All three practices offer services in German, English and Spanish. At Cologne Esch, Turkish is also available at reception.
