What Is Neurological Physiotherapy?
Neurological physiotherapy – listed on your prescription as KG-ZNS (a German prescription code for physiotherapy treating disorders of the central nervous system) – treats people with conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord and nerves. It is based on neuroplasticity: the nervous system's ability to form new connections and rebuild lost functions through targeted, repeated practice. KG-ZNS may only be provided by physiotherapists with recognized advanced training – at all three of our locations you are treated by therapists with advanced Bobath training. We offer Vojta in Cologne-Esch and PNF in Düsseldorf.

What does KG-ZNS on my prescription mean?
KG-ZNS is the German prescription code for physiotherapy to treat disorders of the central nervous system. It is prescribed for neurological diagnoses and may only be billed by therapists with recognized advanced neurophysiological training (e.g. Bobath or PNF) – like our certified therapists.
Does health insurance cover the treatment?
Yes, with a doctor's prescription, all statutory and private health insurances cover the costs. For many neurological diagnoses, a long-term need for therapy is recognized, so prescriptions can be renewed without complications. Patients with statutory insurance pay the statutory co-payment unless they are exempt.
At which locations do you offer KG-ZNS?
At all three locations: Cologne-Esch, Cologne-Worringen and Düsseldorf Unterbilk. We work with the Bobath concept at every location; Vojta is only available in Cologne-Esch and PNF only in Düsseldorf. In addition, we treat immobile patients as home visits at home or in nursing homes.
How long does a neurological treatment session take?
A one-on-one KG-ZNS session usually lasts about 30 minutes. How many sessions make sense depends on your condition – for chronic neurological conditions, long-term, regular therapy is often the goal.
Is it still worthwhile to start therapy after several years?
Yes. The nervous system remains capable of learning throughout life. Even years after a stroke or with long-standing conditions, regular, targeted therapy can still improve mobility, safety and independence.
Do you also treat children?
Yes, with Bobath therapy and – in Cologne-Esch – with Vojta therapy we also treat infants and children with neurological abnormalities and developmental delays. You can find out more on our Bobath and Vojta therapy pages.
