Schroth Scoliosis Therapy

Conservative 3D treatment of scoliosis – Three-dimensional correction through breathing, movement and postural training

What is Schroth Scoliosis Therapy?

The Schroth method, developed by Katharina Schroth, is a worldwide recognized conservative treatment method for scoliosis (lateral curvature of the spine with rotation). It was developed in the 1920s by Katharina Schroth and is now continued according to the latest scientific findings. The method is based on a holistic, three-dimensional concept that combines special breathing techniques, active correction exercises and postural training.

Frequently Asked Questions

From what degree of scoliosis is Schroth therapy useful?

Schroth therapy is useful at all severity levels – from mild scoliosis from 10° Cobb angle to severe curvatures over 40°. The earlier it is started, the better. Even after operations, the therapy can be used for stabilization.

How often do I have to do the exercises?

For optimal therapy success, the exercises should be performed at home daily for 30-60 minutes. Control appointments take place 1-2 times a week in the practice, where the exercises are checked and adjusted. For children during growth, more frequent control appointments are recommended.

Can Schroth therapy avoid surgery?

In many cases, yes. With consistent implementation, the therapy can prevent deterioration of scoliosis and thus delay or completely avoid surgery. Decisive factors are early start, regular implementation and the severity of scoliosis.

Does health insurance cover the costs?

Yes, Schroth scoliosis therapy is covered by all statutory and private health insurance companies with a medical prescription. The prescription is usually issued by orthopedists or general practitioners as 'physiotherapy for scoliosis'.
